Through the computing curriculum we aim for pupils to:

  • gain the skills and confidence required to embrace and utilise new technology,

  • gain skills in the areas of ‘Programming and coding’, ‘Information technology’ and ‘Digital literacy’,

  • develop creativity, resilience, problem solving and critical thinking skills.

  • understand how to stay safe online in order to become socially responsible users of technology,

  • use technology effectively to support learning across the entire curriculum and beyond.

Implementation: The computing curriculum is taught through a progression of knowledge and skills.  Pupils access mobile devices such as iPads and chromebooks to work on the knowledge and skill objectives set out for each group year.  The computing scheme ‘NCCE' is used to support planning and to provide resources. Online safety is interwoven through the computing curriculum, but to allow full coverage, pupils also have a discrete lesson every half-term to ensure all areas of online safety are being taught. Pupils are taught specific computing objectives in discrete computing lessons but also have opportunities to practice these skills across the curriculum through research and other digital literacy led activities, demonstrating their knowledge and understanding.
