Our Experiences

MP Sarah Edwards visit

The Member of parliament for Tamworth, Sarah Edwards, visited our school and met all our pupils.  Our school council asked Sarah about her role and how she would help the people of Tamworth.

World Book Day

We celebrated 'World Book Day'.  It was wonderful to see all of our children dressed up as their favourite book characters and to share stories about them.  Each class spent the day exploring books and activities based around reading.

Reception enjoyed the whole school celebration where we listened to a story by Mrs Byrne and Mrs Kesseler, then had lots of fun on the catwalk showing our costumes to each other. Back in class, we played eye spy with traditional tale characters, made bookmarks and designed our own book covers.

To celebrate World Book Day,  Year One wrote character descriptions. Role-played familiar stories, ‘Farmer Duck’ and ‘Handa's Suprise’. Collaged Elma the elephant and her rainbow patches and made monster bookmarks. Using Lego, the children built their own story settings and used character puppets to re-tell traditional tales or create their own stories. Throughout the day, the children listened to many different stories read by their teachers.

During World Book Day, Years 4 and 3 took part in a British Library Live Lesson with the children's author, Michael Rosen. He read poetry, and we also got to do an illustration session. We also took part in a BBC Teach Big Read and learnt what we could do to choose a book that we liked to read. We finished our day by listening to some stories from around the world.

Dog Visit

A team of volunteers from Tamworth guide dog fundraising group visited our school. They spoke to all the children about how guide dogs are trained, how they help people in their daily lives and the positive impact that this has on both the owners and their families. Below are a few pictures from this special visit, which was thoroughly enjoyed by children and staff!

Afternoon Tea

Parents and carers were invited into school with their children to enjoy a scrumptious afternoon tea, with delicious sandwiches, lots and lots of cakes, all served with tea/coffee or squash.  Here are a few pictures capturing the event which ran over two consecutive weeks.

REMEMBRANCE

We have been thinking about our families, friends and loved ones during the month of November. Each of us had a poppy to decorate and fill with kind words/thoughts or names of loved ones who we want to think of and keep in our prayers during remembrance day and this special month. We also want to remember all the fallen soldiers who work every day to keep us safe...lest we forget.

ST ELIZABETH'S FEAST DAY

On November 5th we celebrated the feast day of our School Saint.  Every child took home a bookmark to celebrate our day with our school prayer on it.  The children in Reception organised a party for Key Stage One.  We began with a prayer and thought about how lucky we are to have such a caring Saint as our School Saint.  Year 3 and 4 wrote some poems to share with each other.  What a special day this was.  Please see the Our Saints area of the website for more photographs of the day.
